  What I Do

Each therapy is as unique as a fingerprint.

Youโ€™re getting ready to start therapy, hooray! For some people itโ€™s exhilarating. For other people itโ€™s frigginโ€™ terrifying. I get that. Iโ€™m here for it either way. After all, it takes courage to start a new journey of self-discovery. And because youโ€™re doing something different, it creates the space for new possibilities and change.

I take the time to listen and understand you, so as to make sure I truly understand the issues youโ€™re dealing with. For therapy to work, you need to feel safe. Safety means you feel that you can tell me what youโ€™re struggling with, even what you might be embarrassed or ashamed about, and know that you will not be judged. Compassion and acceptance are two of my highest values, because this being a person stuff is hard!

Based on your own needs and goals, I'll work with you to identify a plan for therapy that will result in meaningful change. I will not just sit and nod my head for an hour. We are here to do work and you deserve a therapist who is engaged, insightful, and willing to get in there with their sleeves rolled up alongside you to do the work.

There are a million different therapy models and techniques. Perhaps youโ€™ve heard of some of them, and you might even have an idea of what would help you. I am trained in a variety of therapy styles, which I find crucial in being able to create a personalized therapy style that is going to work for you, not someone in a textbook.

You can read about a few of my favorites here:

However, research shows that what gets results in therapy even more than any particular model is the relationship between the client and their therapist. If there is a strong connection, then we can collaborate effectively to identify your problems and create a plan for change. You need to have a therapist who gets you.

I want to get to know you and your story. What hurts, what feels hopeless; as well as what your values and your greatest joys are. Mapping out the highs and lows is the first step to creating a tailored plan for how we can help you have more of the highs and less of the lows.
